FAQ

  • Are there any academic or prior experience requirements for me to Learn at The Lab?
Depending on which course you want to enroll in, we may ask you a few questions about your level of experience and existing audio knowledge. This will help us to better suit your needs and depending on the results of your questionnaire, maybe we'll point you to a more rudimentary course or to a more advanced one.
  • Are there any equipment requirements for me to Learn at the Lab?
Yes, definitely, for sure. You will need to own and have regular access to the following: A functional Apple computer running MacOS "Mojave" (10.14) or later with at least 6GB RAM A USB-C/Thunderbolt external storage hard drive that connects to your computer with at least 100GB of free space available Apple Logic Pro X v10.7.4 or later, installed and working A USB microphone that can connect to your computer High quality, studio grade headphones that can connect to your computer's headphone jack. It is not required but highly recommended that you also own: A high quality audio interface At least one professional quality microphone A USB keyboard controller High quality studio loudspeakers All cables to connect everything Learn at The Lab provides NONE of these things for you. If you don't own own any of the listed things, well then you're definitely in the right place to learn how to begin! We'll be more than happy to consult with you on what you need to get and will start you from the ground up with a short window of opportunity for you to acquire what you need before you'll actually need it to progress forward.
  • May I enroll in multiple courses at the same time?
With the way our courses are structured, it wouldn't make sense to enroll in more than one full course at any given time. If you want to take a longer, deeper dive into the world of audio production, we will set up a meeting with you and build a specific curriculum that would be suitable for what you want to learn about. However!! Once they are available and happening, you can certainly enroll in our workshops at the same time you're taking a course! In fact, that would be recommended as the workshops will inevitably reinforce your course knowledge. Certain discounts may apply to workshops if you are actively enrolled in or have already completed a full course.
  • When I complete a course, will I receive a an academic certificate, diploma or any type of legitimate degree?
No, we are not an accredited institution. Learn at The Lab is hosted by a small private recording facility's owner and offers private, one-on-one audio production lessons and training as well as limited weekend workshops.
  • How do I make payments?
Payments can be made through PayPal, Venmo or with ACH Direct Deposits. We'll also accept cash in hand if you want to drop by. Personal checks will only be accepted if they are received and fully payable within 7 business days of your scheduled payment due date.
  • May I divide course costs over multiple payments?
Yes! Course costs may be divided into two equal payments. The first half is due, in full, upon enrollment. The second half is due, in full, before the start time of the class that begins the second half of you course. For example, if you're enrolled in a 20 lesson course, your second payment would be due before the 11th lesson is scheduled to begin. If you're enrolled in a 14 lesson course, your second payment would be due, in full, before the scheduled start time of lesson 8.

  • What are you policies for cancelling or missing a lesson or workshop?
ALL lessons & workshops begin at their scheduled start time, not whenever the student decides to finally arrive. Private Lesson Policies: If for any reason a lesson needs to be postponed or cancelled by a student, the student must contact their instructor at least 24 hours in advance of their lesson's scheduled start time to state this. The lesson must then be rescheduled to an appropriate time convenient to the instructor's availability (NOT the student's) within fourteen (14) calendar days. If a student postpones, cancels or misses a lesson due to lateness or absence, and the student does NOT contact their instructor at least 24 hours in advance, the lesson may be, at the discretion of the instructor, considered forfeit. In any case, the lesson will need to be rescheduled to an appropriate time convenient to the instructor's availability (NOT the student's) within fourteen (14) calendar days. Any and all rescheduled lessons must be completed within fourteen (14) calendar days or they are forfeit. Forfeit lessons may be rescheduled at a future time convenient for both the instructor and student's availability at an additional fee of $180/class. If at any time a student does not show up for a lesson, "no call, no show" style, their lesson is automatically forfeit. The lesson may be rescheduled at a time convenient to the instructor's availability (NOT the student's) and for a fee of $180.00. There are NO refunds offered on any lessons postponed, cancelled or missed by the student, for any reason. Workshop Policies: Since workshops are group events and are not able to be rescheduled, all enrollments and sales are final. If a student enrolls and then misses the workshop, that's on them.

  • I've purchase admission to a workshop but I can't make it... Can I get a refund?
No. Once you purchase admission to a workshop or buy into a bulk or online plan, that's it, you're in. Think of it like buying concert or sporting event tickets. Refunds may be offered at Learn at the Lab's discretion on the occasion of any cancelled workshops that can not or are not rescheduled for a later date. That would be the only exception.
